K Blog 2017- 2018, December 15th

As we complete our final week of 2017 at Black Pine Circle, our school shines brightly with the glow of love and good will. The kindergartners have shared some of their favorite holiday traditions, explored holidays around the world, and helped to create an eclectic tapestry of compassion, empathy and beauty that settles over all who enter. It truly is the most beautiful place to be around this time of year.

Whats New In K?

  • The K's learned how to solve and identify story problems involving addition and subtraction with bicycles. We also practiced doubling by using bicycles and doubling the total number to find the number of wheels.

Social Studies

Special Projects
In the spirit of the season, students built houses, using 2D shapes, to hide their gingerbread people from the characters in his story who want to eat him. They prepared by making a plan for their houses, as well as a material list. The kindergarteners then presented their houses to the class.

The Kindergarteners did a beautiful job working on and performing their songs, Jingle Bells and The Ha Ha Holiday Song, for the Winter Concert. This was their first time on the big stage at the upper school and it was exciting!

Art
In art class we have been continuing our explorations with color and returning our focus to seasonal trees. After reading the book, Owl Moon, we added branches to our monochromatic full moon paintings, and later we added snow. Their winter trees are turning out beautifully!
