K Blog 2017-2018, March 15th

Hello K families,
Last Wednesday was our class trip to the Lawrence Hall of Science. We participated in their Motion Commotion workshop, where the kindergartners designed, built, tested and revised structures to accomplish design challenges. You can learn more about this project from the write up we sent home in the kindergartners take home folders this week.

We walked the museum after our workshop and participated in exhibits that explored parachute building, rocket construction, how wind farms work and many other valuable and immersive activities.

But talk of the trip was, as it is every year, getting to climb on the giant humpback whale in front of the museum!

Art

In art class we have been making collages with our painted papers for our upcoming art show in the spring. Apparently it was so busy in the studio that there are no pictures of our cutting and gluing sessions. Also, just a reminder to please bring your empty art portfolio back to the studio if you haven’t already.

Music

The Kindergarten class has been experimenting a lot with a variety of percussion instruments.  Today we explored the shekere and the cabasa, their similarities and their differences. We also have been introduced to a rhythm game with lummi sticks, which look much the same as rhythm sticks, but are used in quite a different manner.
